CRFC Carry the Dragon
A select number of Calne RFC players answered the Lions Club call for help when they realised the 35-foot carnival dragon, they’d laboured over for a number of weeks, was missing a bit of muscle to carry it. Due to the outstanding community work of the Lions Club all it members were heavily involved in the organisation and crowed control aspect of the procession. An invitation from the Lions for Calne RFC to carry the dragon was received by Matt Snell, who soon found 8 willing volunteers. Vince Treen, Lee Powell, Lee Myring, Pete McGarry, Jason Dolman, Ben Gray and Dave Holmes stepped up to the mark and showed Calne’s community that our club has a much lighter fun and friendly side. Lion’s member Jill Martin would like the Rugby club to consider making our services available for their floats in future processions. This invitation should be considered by the club as both a considerable honour and a great platform to promote out club. And, unless the club wants to organise, fund and build it own float we simply can not afford to miss out on such an opportunity. Dave Holmes carried the head of ‘Jeffery’ and Jason Dolman lead the multiple Mexican waves whilst the rest of us jigged away to the samba beat from the band behind us, whilst dodging multiple water bomb and pistol attacks from the other floats. Post event the group enjoyed a pint in the Kings Arms, then a ‘few’ more back at the club and lastly a fine BBQ at John Hope-Smith’s, who was blatantly making for have a ‘prior arrangement’. |
