Calne Crusaders entertained Devizes 3XV in this D&W3 league fixture at the Rec in a closely contested game.

The travelling team were obviously wary of the size and power of the Calne forwards as the fielded a packed filled with 2XV players. However, to their surprise they were unable to win the battle of the forwards as Calne pushed forward and looked more likely to score.

After scoring first and only try of the game Calne looked like securing a win. But, careless penalties allowed Devizes to stay in touching distance and their kicker was on fine form

It was frustrating game where many refereeing decision went against the home side including two disallowed tries. The first by Gareth Pavey who burst over the line but was adjudged to knock on. The second of the disallowed try’s saw Gareth again burst over and the crowd cheered as they could all clearly see the ball grounded. However, the referee was not correctly positioned and the try was not given.

The game was highly competitive and the Crusaders came off the pitch very disappointed to lose.
