Calne 2XV travelled to Aldbourne/Hungerford to keep their league title hopes alive and were given a fright by a spirited Aldbourne/Hungerford team sitting third in the league. The match started with Aldbourne kicking deep into Calne territory and looked to score early points. Calne were in there own twenty-two for 25 minutes but did not allow the home side to put any points on the board. Eventually Calne cleared to the half way line and from then on, the match became scrappy.

The home side used the wind to their advantage and kicked well to touch whenever Calne looked to threaten. And with the scrums and lineouts working well, it was Aldbourne who looked the more likely to score.

However, Calne's dogged determination and great tackling stopped anything getting through. Kevin Adam, Tom Blomfield and Anthony Jane tackled well and the much changed front row of Paul Wood, Pete Brownlie and Mark Edwards did all they could to keep the league leaders on the front foot.

The game was certainly not a great spectacle, as Aldbourne kicked long at every opportunity and there were many handling errors from both sides. The half time whistle sounded with the score 0-0.

After Captain Tom Morten and the influential Paul Wood's half time talk Calne started with more urgency and quickly forced a penalty in front of the posts. The ever cool Tom Blomfield stepped up to make it 0-3. The game again became messy and it was not long before another penalty was awarded to Calne. This time, Blomfield hit the uprights and the score remained 0-3.

Aldbourne then came back hard and were determined to defeat the league leaders. However Calne stood firm and wouldn't concede points but were relieved to hear the final whistle to end a messy but hard fought game.
