Heros And Villians
Calne’s 2nd team had a heart breaking afternoon. Kicking off early at home against the fast improving Sutton Benger, their early first half efforts earned Calne a 17-0 lead. Winger Alan Henley intercepted a loose pass to run in a 70 meter effort, to start proceedings and with Calne sensing a weakness in Bengers back line, they went about terrorising their village based opponents. Full back Jeff price added a 50 meter effort, further exposing Bengers lack of ability to deal with Calne’s pace. Then the teams top try scorer, Vince Treen, playing out of position on the flank, pick a line and drove his way to the line for the 17 nil lead. Then tragedy struck when with in 5 minutes Calne suffered a player sent off, another sin binned and influential stand in captain and scrum half, Steve Jackett, had to leave the field with an injury. With a two man advantage and facing a reshuffled backline, Benger ruthlessly added 17-0 unanswered points, before the half time break. Benger then added a further 15 after the break, making the most of their one man advantage. Final Score. Calne II 17 Sutton Benger 32 |
