Eleven of Devizes 2nd team players took the field against Calne's 2nd team, in Calne scheduled fixture against Devizes 3rds. Devizes 2nd team were scheduled to play Wootton Bassett 3rd's, but Bassett cried of due to a lack of players.

Despite this supposedly superior advantage, Calne strode into a 10 nil lead. Inside center Alan Henley started proceedings after, fellow center, Alan Milton's 60 meter run was halted just short of the line. Second row Paul Grundy was in support and laid off to Henley for the early score against the run of play.

Devizes looked comfortable in the scrums as young prop Tom Morten faced off against is old Devizes coaches. Despite winning a high percentage of Calne's scrums Devizes' pack was unable to capitalise points wise and they also struggled to keep up with Calne's lighteningly quick threequarters.

Calne struck again, again against the run of play, which was starting to build more and more in Devizes favour. In contrast to the scrums, Calne mauling was one of the highlights of the day. The pack inched its way to Devizes line and scrum half, Mike Smith, was able to peel off and dart to the line.

The scoreline was pegged back by Devizes, with an unconverted try, the result of their pack?s continual hard work.

After half time, Devizes took control of the scoreboard when they added the only converted try of the day. A blood injury to fullback Jeff Price left Calne a little disjointed and Devizes cut loose and edged over for the winning score.

But standout performances from backs Henley, Price and Vince Treen and from forwards Simon Lathbury, Trystan Williams and Grundy gives great hope for the 2nd teams entry into Division three next season. Where they will face the real Devizes 3rd team.
