Calne Go Top After Power Packed Performance

Calne moved to the top of Dorset and Wilts 1 North on Saturday after another convincing win over Colerne, at the Recreation Ground. Despite not playing with the intensity, of the previous week, Calne did nothing wrong and played the basics well.

It didn’t take long for the first score to come, Calne were awarded a penalty in front of the posts, Donegan decided not to go for the easy points, took a quick tap and passed out to Lewis Baker who went over the line for the first try. This score opened the floodgates and Calne were running the ball all over the field, the only thing that prevented the score being a lot higher was the determination and never give up attitude of the Colerne defence but even this didn’t stop several more players getting on the score sheet.

After an injury to Matt Morten, the pack had to be rearranged, but the home team still had the making of Colerne in the scrums, thanks to the old faithful front row of Ian Smart, Matt Arnold and Mick Dyer. Neil Watkins carried the ball well as did Rich Kearney who scored two tries of his own. Also making the hard yeads was Alan Wicks, who had most of the re-starts to tend to, but dealt with them faultlessly.

After some fine lines being run by Neil Young and Stuart Boswell, more tries came from Lewis Baker who crossed the line twice more for his hatrick. Never to be outdone was, Wiltshire County player, Guthrie Holliday who crossed the line four times.

The most deserved try came from James Gladding who had a good solid game throughout and was on the receiving end of a beautiful, out of the tackle pop, ball from Alan Wicks to stroll over the line. The last try of the game came from Damon Murphy after a break through several tackles. Captain, Donegan had his kicking boots on, as he managed to slot over eight out of the eleven conversions, none of which were easy kicks. Veteran Rich Kearney was awarded the man of the match.

Final Score. Calne 71 Colerne 3
