CALNE triumphed in their first pre-season friendly after managing to put a team together within an hour of the game being set up on Saturday morning. Unsurprisingly the first ten minutes of the hastily arranged friendly were very disjointed with Pewsey taking the game deep into Calne half. Their pressure paid off when from some strong running Calne's lacklustre defense was beaten and the try was promptly converted.

The following ten minutes saw a passage of un-inspirational play until a Pewsey clearance was taken by winger Alan Henley inside his own half. He beat two men and his sheer pace left another two trailing in his wake before he left the last man standing with a stunning step to score between the posts. Mike Charlwood converted.

Pewsey continued to battle well and their hard work was rewarded with a very well taken drop goal. But moments later Matt Arnold broke the Pewsey defense when charging through off a pop ruck ball the resulting score was converted by Charlwood.

The second half saw both sides improve their attacking play with periods of sustained pressure. Pewsey took advantage of an infringement and took the points on offer bring the score to 13-14. As fatigue set in late in the game Calne gave a way a further two penalties which if converted would have sealed the game for Pewsey. Unfortunately for Pewsey a broken down attacking move was picked up by, former American Footballer, John Hope-Smith who scrambled over from 22 metres to clinch the win for Calne.
