Calne Vs. Minety
No revenge for Calne.

A highly motivated and determined Calne XV just missed out on exacting a little retribution for Minety's lack of willingness to Postpone the World Cup Final fixture earlier in the year. A rather 'spirited' Calne team had to travel to Minety after the world cup final to lose by a mere 20 points. Minety scrored a second try late in the first half to sneak the game 21-16.

A strong Calne line up drove into the fast improving Minety pack and created a turnover instantly. Minety found their feet after 10 minutes and missed a deserved panalty. Calne's Andy Donegan, starting his first game at fly half, slotted an effort monent later. This was shortly followed by second moments later, as Calne started to control most phases of play and matched Minety's pack. Donegan's opposite number brought the score back to 6-3 but just as they looked to re-establish some control Winger John Hope-Smith received a miss pass from Donegan to find himself in space. Hope-Smith dropped his shoulder and took the score. The difficult conversion was scored by Donegan.

Half time 13-3

From the restart Minety looked a different team and as the wind picked up they played a cleaver territory game and pined Calne back in there 22 for a full 25 minutes. Valliant defence and some herioc tackling from Full back, and later man of the match, Mike Smith kept Minety at bay until Minety's back line were given some ball. Then their winger was able to go over for a touch line score. The neatly taken conversion was taken by Tweedle.

A rejuvenated Minety picked up another three points and levelled the game as a Calne player was sin binned for violent conduct. Down to 14 men Calne struggled to contain a Minety side who could see victory in their reach as another infringement allowed Tweedle to take another penalty. Chasing the game for the first time Calne showed some steal as they advanced, the hard way, into Minety's territory. Daron Thomas, Ian Smart and Alan Wicks carried the ball superbly and were rewarded as Minety's professional foul was spotted and Donegan brought the scores back to 16 all.

It was Minety who, in a battle of who wanted the game more, stepped up to the mark and took the game with a blindside break in Calne's 22 leading to two broken tackles and a score in the corner.
